Norwell, Massachusetts - July 2012

We have stayed here several times and each time it feels more like home. This hotel is the definition of upscale comfortable. The rooms are tastefully appointed, the beds are just right, the showers have great water pressure, and the rooms are immaculate. Probably the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I personally like that they deliver the LA Times to your door each morning. There’s nothing like having a fresh croissant, coffee and the paper to start your day.

The hotel’s location can’t be beat - it’s just a block from the beach on the Balboa Peninsula and about 2/10th of a mile from the Newport Beach pier. As one who is used to great beaches and beach towns in Massachusetts, I have to say that these beaches are special both for their expansiveness and because, when it is sunny, the skies are cloudless and crisp. The hotel provides beach towels, beach chairs, sand toys for kids and boogie boards, which means if you are traveling by air (the hotel is about 15 minutes from the John Wayne Airport - SNA), all you need to bring is your bathing suit and sunglasses. While the roof deck has beautiful views, chaise lounges and comfortable chairs, it’s also nice to sit outside your door on the porch furniture. They have an extensive free DVD collection, satellite HD TV, a public computer with printer and free wi-fi. They even turn down the beds for you at night. The parking is easy to access (and free), which is a huge benefit in this area. All of the staff are genuinely friendly and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome. It’s nice that they truly remember you from stay to stay.

Given the amenities, location, cleanliness and staff, the rates are fair and a great value. The Bay Shore is the kind of place where you could stay for a month and still not want to leave!
