Mom and I did a "bucket list" two day trip to Newport, shopping all day one day at South Coast Plaza and Crystal Court, stayed at the Bay Shores that night and shopped Fashion Island the next day. A friend warned me away from the peninsula this time of year due to " a lot of partying".
Bay Shores Peninsula Hotel was very nice. It's not a "chain", it's a quaint small hotel with all the basics; plus a warm and friendly staff, fresh baked yummy cookies in the afternoon, beach access right across the street, and a nice roof terrace that is perfect for starting your day enjoying fresh fruit, bagels and coffee that are provided as part of your stay.
Favorite place to stay when I'm in the area. Rooms are clean, hotel is in a great location close to both the Newport and Balboa piers. Food and drink are just a short stroll away in a beautiful setting regardless of your desired choice. All you need for a day at the beach is at your disposal and the staff is always there to give you options - great suggestions and recommendations for dinner and fun.
This place is in walking distant to many fun things and the beach & bay. Start your morning with a free breakfast.
A first rate operation with authentic local color--non corporate and familiar in tone. So glad to find this place. Can't overuse the terms "clean" and "charming," or "unrehearsed friendliness." (One pays a bit of a premium for these and well worth it.)
We had a wonderful stay! Perfect accommodations and location. Loved how helpful and friendly the staff was. We'll be back next summer!
Lovely rooms with great toiletries, safety deposit box, fridge and wifi. The staff were friendly and helpful, free hire of beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, boggie boards and beach toys was great. Cookies in reception each afternoon was definitely a highlight for me! Also a vast selection of DVD's in reception for free hire was great.
EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT !! to start with this is maybe the 3rd time I have NEVER taken the time to write a review, so that should say something right there. I'll start by saying when we pulled up I was concerned. We are used to staying in more modern 5 star hotels and somewhat large ones. When we pulled up it looked small and just not what we were used to.
The best small hotel I have ever stayed in. Rooms were spotlessly clean and well furnished. The welcome by the night porter when we arrived at 11.45pm (after travel delays) was very warm and helpful. We were offered refreshments before we retired. The buffet breakfast was extensive and catered for most needs.
I've been visiting and staying at Newport Beach/Balboa over 40 years now. I've tried just about every type of lodging over the years. This last visit with my wife was quite a bit different than the others. I stumbled on Bayshore Peninsula Hotel and was pleasantly surprised. I've passed the hotel probably a thousand times over the years and never noticed it.
